Last Night's Meeting at Mix 'n' Mingle & Update from the Team
Hello,
all!
It
was wonderful to meet so many of you last night. Our strength is in numbers and we are growing each day.
Continue reaching out to your neighbors and friends, anyone you know who
has experienced a bad landlord in Woodstock. Do you know a former
employee or vendor from Advantage Plus or other landlords? Encourage them
to join us…their stories are vital.
Our incredible web and PR guru, has put together a survey regarding your landlord
experiences.
In
the works right now:
- Setting up a meeting with the city manager and inspector.
- Continuing to collect documentation from everyone. Photos, emails, any correspondence, leases, you name it. As mentioned last night, every detail matters. Tell your whole story.
- After building our documentation, reaching out to state and federal agencies for support and assistance. In many cases, we will be reporting the dire conditions many of us face.
For
the newest members of the group, I've included links to our website, Facebook,
and Twitter. I've also added links to press we've received so far in our
efforts. Please share these to anyone who would like to be involved.

anything else you can think of! Give former and current tenants our email
address! We will continue to build our database. The more
information we can collect, the more power we have to fight for basic rights,
standards, and respect from our landlords.

Woodstock Independent News Coverage Coming Next Week
Following our first visit to the City Council meeting this past Tuesday 17th, The Woodstock Independent are working on a news article, most likely to be published next week.
We look forward very much to the coverage, and raised awareness of our request for improved rights for all tenants in the City of Woodstock, and greater protection from landlords to ensure they maintain health and safety standards (i.e. maintain their properties correctly!).

*** TOMORROW IS TAKE ACTION DAY ***
If you've seen the earlier posting, you will realize that we are determined to have the City of Woodstock support tenants, by enacting ordinances which will protect tenants in Woodstock from "Scumlords" who use unfair practices. It's time this stopped.
To this end...
The more people who come, the better... The City of Woodstock needs to see a unified voice and determination in supporting tenants and ending the rule of unscrupulous landlords.
This is NOT purely against Advantage Plus Realty, in fact, it is not against them at all... it is FOR the tenants - regardless of their landlord. (It just happens that unfortunately too many of us have had negative experiences with Advantage Plus Realty!)
Everyone will benefit, as happy tenants are long-term tenants, that means stability for our families, schools, children, and ongoing stable revenue for the community.
See you on Tuesday at 6:30pm!!

Help Improve Tenant Rights in Woodstock Illinois... Come to City Hall Tues 17th September at 6:30pm CST
DisAdvantage Plus (run by "distruntled tenants") is dedicated to ensuring the implementation of city ordinances in the city of Woodstock, Illinois - designed specifically to protect the rights of tenants renting within the city, as well as ensuring that landlords adhere to minimal standards and are held to account for unfair practices.
As a starting point in achieving this, we are asking YOU, to come and join us at 6:30pm CST on Tuesday 17th September on the grass outside City Hall (corner of Calhoun Street and Throop Street) in Woodstock, so that we can gather together before the City Hall meeting to be held at 7pm CST.
Although many of us have had problems with Advantage Plus Inc., it is not our intention to target any particular landlord, however, instead to highlight issues and ensure that some protection is put in place to protect the rights of tenants, and advocate for better rules to govern landlords in Woodstock Illinois.
